Bonjour, 21! : The Night of My 21st Birthday — 30 Days Writing Challenge
20 was a weird age for me. There were so many things happened, not all pretty pink, but I’m still grateful for everything. I was ecstatic, yet depressed. I was disappointed, yet blessed. Who’s to blame? Twenty is the weirdest after all. For once I thought my life was a roller coaster ride, and I buckled up for a year there.
At the age 20, so many things happened off plans. People come and go, they said it happens either for a blessing or a lesson. But seriously? With every goodbye comes another hello, then another goodbye, then another hello again, and repeat. Running around this circle was exhausting. I went into a slump and encountered my first episode of quarter-life crisis thing. I lost count of how many crying-to-sleep-nights I went thru this age. I lost my ability to believe in myself (work-wise). I buried myself for days in a hole of self-doubt and confusion. Life really was a Ferris wheel when you’re 20, right? A never ending one. If my 20 was a tragedy, my friends and family were my solid witnesses. And for that, at least I’m blessed.
Hence, every cloud has its own silver linings. I learned that I can’t hold on to things that wasn’t meant for me. I learned to give myself the benefit of the doubts. I found myself becoming more mature. I grew into someone stronger yet softer. I saw the world from multiple perspective. I got braver to take chances and appreciated myself in every little progress I made. I do things that I love, stay with the people that matter, and I don’t let others define my happiness anymore.
Well, Au Revoir 20! and Bonjour, 21!
The night of my 21 birthday was great, I spend my time with someone that matter. I hope I have more love to give to myself, and to the person that really deserve one. I hope I find the kind of love that makes me appreciate myself more. The kind of love that sticks till the end, thru every best and worst in life. I hope to be content in every job that I did. The future is scary and uncertain, I hope I enjoy every process along the way. I hope my family and friends do well in their life, I pray for their health and happiness. I hope I always surrounded by kind people, nothing more beautiful than living the life with good people around. Cheers to another year to be cherished for.
